They keep your feet up out of the dirt. Can be used as an entry mat for your van, a mat to wash down the dog, or change mat for getting you or the kids out of bathers or wet suit. The mats keep you elevated from the dirt, and allows water to drain through keeping things cleaner and dryer in use.
