A Tempering Valve is used to control the temperature if you are lucky enough to have a hot water setup in your van.  

Also referred to as a mixing valve. If your water is too hot from your hot water unit - you can add this into your line - This valve mixes hot and cold water to create water at the perfect temperature to distribute to sinks and showers. 

Bit of a first world problem if your van water is to hot ! but hey it can happen and this valve will manage the temperature for you.
